Willow Wood is constantly updating its fundraising calendar to bring the best, the most fun, and the most challenging events to Tameside and Glossop.
One such event is the Firewalk, which has had many calls for its return since Willow Wood’s last in 2013.
Chris Hayden, event organiser said: “It’s probably the shortest sponsored walk we’ll ever hold at just 20 feet long, but is certainly one of the most challenging. We’re hoping for at least 50 people to put their best foot forward and join us on Sunday 27 September, and would be de-lighted to get even more bright sparks joining us to make it a roaring success. We’re holding it at Stalybridge Fire Station, but hope that doesn’t dampen anyone’s enthusiasm!”
In fact, the Firewalk being held jointly with the Fire Brigade, who are putting on a Fun Day starting at 5pm. There’ll be fairground rides, music, stalls, refreshments, a mini fire engine, a fire parade pump and lots more, with all proceeds from the Fun Day going to the Fire Fighters Charity, a very good cause.
Chris said: “Before the Firewalk commences at 7.30pm, all participants must attend an inspirational seminar, led by the organisers, Time4Change. We’ve all been told from a very early age not to touch fire, and you really have to overcome years of conditioning to take that first step onto a bed of embers burning at around 800o. However, the seminar really can be life-changing. Let’s face it, if it can inspire you to walk on burning ashes, what else will it fire you up to do?”
The registration fee is just £25, however, because of the nature of the event it is only open to those aged 16 years and over. Willow Wood is hoping that every participant will raise a substantial amount in sponsorship, and to make it easy has a Firewalk fundraising card available. As Chris said: “It’s like the football cards, but we receive £100 from each one, with a prize of £20 to the lucky winner.
Using them makes fundraising hassle-free, and helps raise the £7,340 it takes every day to continue our care for the people of Tameside and Glossop.”
