Children from schools across Greater Manchester will be buzzing as they embrace the city’s iconic bee as a theme and put their best foot forward for charity.
Schools are already signing up to take part in the Manchester Midday Walk in April, with youngsters of all ages choosing to take on the bee themed sponsored walk challenge in aid of St Ann’s Hospice.
Eamonn O’Neal, Chief Executive of St Ann’s, explained: “Our Manchester Midnight Walk is hugely popular, having been a highlight of our fundraising calendar for thirteen years. Participants of the Midnight Walk are over 11 years of age, and we’ve had a real demand for a similar event which is suitable for younger children too.
“We’re really pleased that we’ve been able to respond to that demand with the brand new Manchester Midday Walk. We’re asking schools to sign up now to take part, and they can choose their own distance and date in April to do the sponsored walk. It’s really exciting that schools are already embracing the idea, and we can’t wait to hear all about their plans for their walks.
“As a Greater Manchester charity, we’re always proud to be part of our local community and we’re encouraging schools to embrace the Manchester bee theme in their plans for the Manchester Midday Walk.
The Midnight Walk has a Manchester bee theme this year, so it’s great to carry that through to this exciting new school fundraiser too – we’re buzzing to see everyone embracing it and showing their pride in our great city.”
One school that has already signed up to take part in the Manchester Midday Walk is Norbury Hall Primary in Hazel Grove.
Teacher Amanda Murray said: “As a school our pupils selected St Ann’s Hospice as our chosen charity this year. The children wanted to support a local charity and felt strongly that St Ann’s would benefit greatly. We have received a tremendous amount of contact from the St Ann’s team, including visits from staff and fundraising ideas. The children are very proud to be part of the launch for this new project.”
Schools can choose their own distance for their sponsored Manchester Midday Walk, and set their own date in April for the Walk to take place.
