IKRAH PACKS A PUNCH AT TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS

A fitness enthusiast has returned from the British National Taekwondo Championships with a silver medal.

Ikrah, who attends Canon Burrows Church of England Primary School in Ashton, placed second in her category at the prestigious event on Saturday, October 27.

After convincingly beating her opponents in the quarter-finals and semi-final, Ikrah narrowly missed out on the gold medal.

Following her success, the school released the following statement: “We are really proud of her achievements and pleased that she demonstrates our fantastic sporting values in her competitions.”

Such was the impact of Ikrah’s achievement; she was later invited to Tameside Mayor’s Parlour as a guest of Commonwealth Boxing Champion Stacey Copeland.

Stacey, who is currently out of action with an arm injury she picked up when winning the Commonwealth title, tweeted: “Thank you to the Civic Mayor of Tameside for inviting me to the Mayor’s Parlour to receive a certificate in recognition of winning the Commonwealth title, even more special to share it with my family and friends. It means a lot to have support from my home town, thank you!”

While out of action, Stacey has been a regular host on BBC Radio Manchester and even presented her own sporting feature on ITV Granada Reports.
