Generously sponsored by Specsavers Hyde, the biannual Classic & Vintage Car Event held on Saturday 15th June 2019, was blessed by a ‘sunny window’ in what can only be described as a very wet June week, when Hyde’s Market square again hosted over 20 cherished vehicles.
With a wide range of classic cars on display, hundreds of Hyde shoppers, visitors and their children took the opportunity of a welcomed break in the weather to meet the owners, who were more than happy to talk about their cars. Some even let the children sit in them!
Organised entirely by the hard working volunteers who make up the Hyde Town Team, the vehicle extravaganza has been hailed as one of Hyde’s most popular town centre events; and when weather permits, normally attracts 25 plus vehicles.
Also on the day; and aided by the fun antics of ‘Roary’ the Hyde United mascot, staff from Specsavers were on hand in the sponsor’s gazebo offering FREE optical advice and to hand-out money-off eye test vouchers, together with a large selection of ‘ branded freebies’ and balloons to everyone visiting their stall.
Neil Openshaw, Vice Chair of Hyde Town Team said, “The previous shows have been a great success and have grown in popularity which has attracted more and more visitors year on year. That’s why the team decided to put on two classic car events every year. It not only helps Hyde’s retailers and stallholders with increased sales, but it also enable those visitors who may have missed the earlier event to see again the cars our parents, grandparents and great grandparents’ used to drive!”
The classic vehicles were judged during the show by Diane Wood, Director of Specsavers Hyde, who also presented the prizes, with one proud owner picking up the prestigious ‘Car of the Show’ Trophy.
Neil also, pointed out the return of their next town centre attraction which will be ‘The Blue Light Event’ (27th JULY 2019) where hopefully, the weather will once again be kind by offering a sunny late July weekend, when Hyde town centre will welcome all the ‘Blue Light’ services.
“The Blue Light Event this year will offer Tameside townsfolk the change to meet the courageous men and women who keep us all safe and respond effectively to everyday emergencies in a family fun day of dynamic displays. Visitors will also be able to visit all the shops, cafés and browse all the market stalls and attractions Hyde town centre has to offer.”
