The first Hyde School Sports tournament took place last week at Hyde Community College with Basketball the sport being hotly contested by teams brimming with budding Michael Jordan’s – whose name and reputation is legendary around the world.
The primary schools from Hyde took along squads of 6 keen children ready to dribble their way to the title.
It was a mixed tournament where both boys and girls battled it out against each other in 8-minute matches, carefully refereed by the Hyde Community College Sports Leaders.
Throughout the games, there were plenty of 3-point shots on show and great dribbling.
Following the league format competition where each school played each other, it was Flowery Field who were the victors who didn’t lose a game and only had 1 basket scored against them in the whole tournament – Gee Cross played spectacularly and came second.
Kay Hawke, speaking after the games said, “A big ‘Well done’ to all the children who showed great teamwork and respect towards the other teams.”
