COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES FROM 3RD NEWTON SCOUT GROUP.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES FROM 3RD NEWTON SCOUT GROUP.

During May, all sections, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, of the 3rd Newton Scout Group took part in a litter pick, organised by two of our local councillors, Peter Robinson and Helen Bowdon

All of the young members. worked hard clearing a local green field of litter, some even managed to have fun rolling down the hill!

On 11th May, our Cubs took part in JOTT (Jamboree on the trail). We visited Boarfold Campsite for the day, their hike took them along the River Etherow, over rough terrain and back to the campsite. The hike was led by Scout Oliver, and Explorers Max and Kaetlyn who managed to keep the Cubs in order!!  (Great leadership skills shown)

After lunch they cooked sponge cakes in a Dutch oven, courtesy of 3rd Gee Cross. The cakes turned out really well and this is something they are going to do again. A sudden shower of hailstone threatened to ruin the activity, but again, Oliver, Max and Kaetlyn managed to save the day by rigging up a tarpaulin shelter for the Cubs. Lots of tired, muddy Cubs at the end of the day, but all went home with a smile on their face.
