Proud winners of the RISING STAR AWARD – in the recent Pride of Tameside Business Awards, Manager, Amy Booth and the staff at ABC Nursery in Hyde have been busy teaching and getting the children in their care involved to help them to understand what Remembrance Day is all about.
Amy explained, “At ABC Day Nursery we like to have outdoor adventures whatever the weather, so this year we went outside to learn about Remembrance Day. We took a variety of art materials to a local woodland area, where we set about making our very own poppies.
We made beautiful plastic poppies by safely cutting a bottle in half, painting it red and then placing a small black dot in the middle before sealing the poppy to make it water proof. Then we hung the poppies on our nursery fence by the front door for all to see.
When we finished making our colourful creations, we gathered round to learn all about Remembrance Day and why it is a part of British heritage and culture. We read a poem called ‘Poppy, Poppy What Do You Say?’ by T’Prang to help us understand what the poppy represents.
Amy concluded, “ We had a lovely day learning all about Remembrance Day and we are looking forward to dressing the children in red on Friday 9th November”
