North Tameside District Cubs held their annual 5 a side football competition at Droylsden Academy, with 9 Cub packs from across Droylsden and Ashton taking part in a highly competitive competition.

It ended in a very close final between 2nd/1st Hurst Pack and 339th Droylsden Pack, with the 339th Droylsden Pack emerging as winners.

Lindsey Neglia, 339th Assistant Cub Scout Leader said, “The Cub team worked very well together, encouraging and supporting each other throughout the competition”.

The winning 339th Cub team consisted of Harrison, Riley, Bobby, Erin, Harry, Jack and Archy, who were trained by Michael and Paul who all had trained hard to win the Cubs 5 a side competition.

Tony Hoskin the District Cub Scout Leader said, “It was a great day, made even better by the enjoyment and sportsmanship of the Cubs.”

Amanda Clarke, Group Scout Leader from the newly formed 12th Ashton Scout Group at Richmond Street Community Centre said, “Our Cubs did ‘great’ and enjoyed themselves; considering it was their first attempt at competing in a District event.”

Assistant District Commissioner – Cubs, Gill Cummins, thanked Dominic Mayhew, Explorer Scout, for doing a great job as the referee throughout the afternoon. She added the feedback from the Cubs and Leaders was very positive and proof that the work and support from the District Team and Scout Active Support (SAS) have been well worth the time and effort they’d put in to the event and went on to thank the District and SAS support for all their hard work.

Trophies & medals were presented to 339th Droylsden Pack (Feature picture) as winners and to 2nd/1st Hurst Pack, (Pictured above) who finished the tournament as runners up.
