The Annual General Meeting of Tameside South Scout District was held at the St George’s Centre, Dane Bank, Denton. The guest of honour was the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Joyce Bowerman, as well as the County Commissioner, Steve Holloway, who together presented the awards.

The District Commissioner, Liz Rowley, in thanking all those attending, praised the young members for the awards they received for their hard work over the past year. She also thanked the Leaders and Helpers for their continued support too.

During her resume of the year’s events, Liz said, “the whole of the District have pulled together to join in many activities including 5-a-sid football, a District camp, going to the local pantomime, many Group and Sectional camps, taking part in the Manchester Parade, visiting Manchester Storm ice hockey team, completing circus skills and many, many more.”

Four Beaver Scouts were presented with certificates for achieving their Chief Scout Bronze Award and two Cub Scouts were presented with their Chief Scout Silver Awards.

Several Long Service Awards were presented to Adult Leaders and Helpers. These included a 25 years’ service to Mike Wallbank, from 6th Hyde Scout Group, along with 20 year service to Ged Rowles, of 1st Dane Bank Scout Group; 15 years’ service to Ralph Delaney, 10 years to Karen Fox and Heather Horrocks, and 5 years’ service awards to Joanne Schofield, Karl Schofield and Alan Plumbley.

The 5-a-side football trophies were presented to 5th Hyde Cubs and Scouts as winners for 2017.

The Mayor congratulated all the Beavers and Cubs for completing the requirements for their awards and she thanked the Leaders and Helpers for the support and skill week in and week out.
