At the start of the new Rotary year, outgoing President, Alan Oldham handed over the ‘reigns’ to the newly elected President, Karen Dorney who accepted her chain of office at a grand installation ceremonial dinner held on Friday 6th July 2018 at Hyde’s Oakland’s Hall.
The Club which is now in its 81st year, hosted 70 guests including Karen’s close family and friends and members from the Rotary clubs of Tameside, Dukinfield and Stalybridge, Denton and Audenshaw as well as the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Denise Ward and her consort Cllr David McNally, who also attended the special event.
Following the sumptuous dinner, two Paul Harris Fellowship awards were presented to outgoing President Alan Oldham and Ann Pike, who accepted the award on behalf of her late husband Colin.
A long service award was also presented to Barry Carey in recognition of his 30 years of Rotary Club membership.
Karen, who has been a Rotarian for 2 years is the owner of Paper Tulips, Hyde’s premier craft and gift shop, and also organises the towns highly successful monthly Artisan Market.
Speaking after the event Karen commented the club would continue to support local and International community projects, Polio eradication, and Rotary International charities. She also nominated Mental Health community organisations as the Presidents chosen charities.
