Jonathan Reynolds, MP for Stalybridge and Hyde, rolled up his sleeves this week to show off his cupcake decorating skills at an event marking Red Nose Day 2017 in Parliament.
Masterchef presenter Gregg Wallace took on the role of judge as more than 60 parliamentarians of all parties competed to win first place in the Maltesers® and Sainsbury’s Red Nose Day Parliamentary ‘Bake a Million’ competition. The competition, which was organised by Maltesers® in partnership with Sainsbury’s was held to celebrate this year’s Red Nose Day which took place on Friday 24th March.
The winning cake decorators chose a nominated Comic Relief project to which Maltesers® and Sainsbury’s will make a donation. MPs were also encouraged to share pictures of their creations on a social media platform of their choice with the hashtag #bakeamillion. For each cake photo uploaded, Maltesers® donated £5 to Comic Relief, towards their £1million total contribution.
Mr Reynolds said:“Sadly I wasn’t the winning baker on this occasion, but it was lovely to take part in a fun event for a brilliant cause! I hope all the schools and workplaces across Tameside who celebrated Red Nose Day also had a great time being funny for money for Comic Relief. Well done all of you.”
Mr Reynolds also attended a Red Nose Day celebration in Hattersley Hub, alongside local volunteers and Councillors Janet Cooper, Gill Pete and Jim Fitzpatrick.
Jonathan said:“This was a great event with lovely goods on sale and a great community feel.
My wife is also very happy as I managed to win a voucher to get her nails done in the raffle –so a special thank you from me to all the generous local businesses who donated!”
