At Willow Wood the whole ethos is about love, care, respect and integrity, and this continues out in the community where our shops and cafes become meeting places, and customers become friends.
Our newest shop is on Market Place, Hyde (conveniently located opposite the Post Office). Although this bright, welcoming shop has only been open for a matter of months, already Carol our manager and her friendly team of volunteers know the names and tastes of many of their regular shoppers.
As Carol said “It’s a really lovely place to work. Willow Wood has a special place in the hearts of many people in and around Hyde and we get some fantastic goods donated. It’s always a pleasure when we’re stocking the shelves with china or collectables to see something that we know one of our regular customers will love and we can point it out to them the next time they’re in.”
Volunteer Sue agreed “A couple of our regulars are involved with amateur dramatics and because I know what shows they’re performing in I can put clothes that I feel may be suitable for costumes to one side. I’m always really proud when they say it’s just what they need. It’s a great feeling to be able to help in this way.”
Carol has worked in charity retail in Hyde for a number of years, as have many of our volunteering team, and their community links help them to engage with the customers making it a great and very friendly place to shop and to work. If you haven’t called in yet we’re open from 9.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday – you might be surprised at the quality and range of goods on offer, all very competitively priced.
And if you’d like to join Willow Wood’s friendly retail team we have plenty of volunteering roles. We need volunteers to help in our distribution centre sorting donations, drivers and drivers’ mates to make deliveries and collections, helpers for our online sales and volunteer assistants to help in our shops. Call into your local shop for an informal chat, or ring Mandy our volunteer manager on 0161 330 1100.
There’s another great reason to help too. As Carol points out “The income raised from the retail division goes straight back to Willow Wood to care for local people. It is such a special feeling to know that your time, commitment and skills are helping improve someone’s life.”
