Netball has always been a popular sport, and that fact was underlined in abundance when Karen Grieg, the Head Coach at Manchester Thunder Netball Club, visited Hyde Community College recently, where she delivered a coaching session to all the girls involved in school Netball this year.
As anyone working in the field of sport will tell you, that behind every successful athlete or team is a dedicated coach.
‘Karen is an International Netballer, who has also won the Superleague title as both a player and coach. She has also worked extensively in the England Netball Talent Pathway, and is passionate about the best ways to develop young players.
Amie Miles from Hyde Community College-PE Department, said, “Netball is a great game that girls of all ages and fitness levels can enjoy. It’s also a game that encourages good teamwork because the player with the ball has to rely on their team mates to create scoring opportunities, alternatively when the other team has the ball; it’s about adopting defence positions.
As Karen told the girls, “It is about doing the simple things correctly!”
Not only is playing Netball fun, but it also builds fitness of the heart and lungs and is good for overall muscular development.
Amie concluded, “On behalf of Hyde Community College, I’d like to thank Karen for visiting our school and feel sure that her motivational coaching will pay off – bringing our girls into the sporting limelight!”
