Walking football is really taking off all around the country and nowhere is its popularity growing so fast as in Denton where Tameside Striders hold their weekly games that can attract up to as many as 30 club members.
Now to encourage more people to take up this active sport the club will shortly be organising extra one-hour Thursday morning sessions designed to encourage men over 65 and women over 50 who have never played the sport before to come and give it a try. Best of all the first four sessions for each newcomer will be FREE OF CHARGE and thereafter there will be just a £2 weekly fee.
These new Thursday sessions, starting in mid December at 10am with a valuable warm-up, are planned to provide a welcoming, low intensity environment for more senior men and women, including beginners who may have no previous football ability or experience. Coaches and experienced walking footballers will be on hand to guide the newcomers and to help everyone settle in and enjoy the experience of this non-contact walking pace sport.
Everyone who has played walking football will confirm that this is an excellent means of acquiring and maintaining fitness playing a non-contact game where participation and enjoyment are far more important than winning.
Final plans for these mixed gender newcomer sessions are still underway and further information will be published as soon as this is available.
