The free mixed men and women walking football we wrote about a few weeks ago begins next Thursday 14th December. Organised by Tameside Striders, these one-hour sessions that are open to women over 50 and men over 65 begin at 10am and take place at Denton Youth Football Club on King Street, which is just off Stockport Road facing the old Police Station and alongside Crown Point South Industrial Park. There is ample free parking and the games are played on artificial turf so you do not require any special kit – just a pair of trainers, plus joggers or jeans and a comfortable top.
You don’t have to have any previous football experience or ability because the emphasis of this non-contact, walking pace sport is good open-air fun while you increase your level of activity and gain fitness. Participation and enjoyment are far more important than winning.
The first four sessions for each newcomer will be FREE OF CHARGE and thereafter there will be just a £2 weekly fee.
A number of experienced walking footballers will be on hand to guide the newcomers and to help everyone settle in and enjoy the experience of this non-contact walking pace sport.
If you are interested in joining in these free mixed gender walking football sessions just turn up at King Street any Thursday before 10am or log onto the Tameside Striders website: www.tamestriderswalkingfootball.org.uk. Alternatively you can email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
