Map reading and sprinting skills were on show last week when 6 local primary schools competed in the first inter-schools tournament of the year for the Hyde School Sports Cluster which was the KS2 Orienteering Boys and Girls competition.
The weather held off nicely as 48 Hyde children took part in an event that was jam-packed with action and excitement.
With each team brimming with enthusiasm the young competitors had to find nearly 40 checkpoints within the orienteering course at Hyde Community College which had been carefully set by the P.E staff. The winning team being the team which visited the most checkpoints in the quickest time, correctly noting the code at each one.
It’s fair to say all of the children loved being part of a running ‘treasure hunt’ and exploring on their own with just a partner and a map for company.
The final results were a victory in both the boys and girls competition for Flowery Field.
So, with Flowery Field topping the ‘leader board’ the school now hopes to maintain their great form going into the next , Hyde School Sports Cluster competition, which will be the ever popular ‘Ultimate Dodgeball Competition’ which will be taking place on Tuesday 10th October
