Ironically, with the sun beating down on Tameside, it seemed a strange time for a dedicated group of Ashton United supporters to embark on a mammoth bike ride across the borough to raise money for a new’ frost cover’ for their Hurst Cross pitch.
On Sunday, May 27, Dave Robinson, Nigel Hall and Andrew Evans began their adventure at Hurst Cross and made the journey to Mossley’s Seel Park, before venturing to Stalybridge Celtic’s Bower Fold and then onto Hyde United’s Ewen Fields.
On a beautiful sunny day, the trio then peddled to the Butchers Arms, Droylsden, before heading to Curzon Ashton’s Tameside Stadium and then back to Hurst Cross.
As of Tuesday morning (12th), the trio had raised £680 towards a £1,300 target. Those wishing to contribute or find out more information can contact Andrew on Twitter: @bigdogsevo
The Robins can look forward to competing in the National League North next season, after claiming promotion via the Evo-Stik Premier playoff final in May.
Jody Banim’s side will be competing against former Football League sides such as Stockport County and York City, as well as town rivals Curzon Ashton.
