Do you live in Tameside and have a few hours to spare each week? If so, Tameside Scout Groups would love to hear from you!
Many Scout groups are short of Leaders, Adult Helpers and Supporters who give their time freely in order to give our young people better chances in life.
12th Ashton Scouts is due to close in about 4 weeks and 2nd Ashton is not far behind due to the shortage of Leaders and Adult Volunteers.
12th Ashton Scouts will start again on 7th September with an open night for new people to come along to see for themselves what is involved in being a Volunteer in Scouting. The 2nd Ashton Scouts open night will be 10th September.
A recent study on volunteers has shown most Volunteers have made new friends, felt better well being by helping others. Many said, ‘It stopped their loneliness, and helped them in new skills, and Scouting looks good on their CV’. Remember, they are not just looking for Leaders, as they mainly need more Adult Helpers and Supporters, where they can and carry out simple tasks like ticking the register, or collecting the subs, playing a game, and if they have a skill like cooking or DIY they could even become the chef or help the groups’ to attain their DIY badges. Adult Supporters are people that support the Groups headquarters in being a chairperson, secretary, treasurer or a trustee to run a HQ – everything from fund raising to cleaning the headquarters.
12th Ashton meet on Fridays at Richmond Street Community Centre on Richmond Street on Crowhill Ashton OL7 9HG, starting at 5.30pm, with Beavers and Cubs at 6.45pm and 8.00pm with Scouts.
2nd Ashton meets on Mondays at West End Church Community Centre in Trafalgar Square, also starting at 5.30pm with Beavers, with Cubs at 6.45pm and 8.00pm with Scouts.
Anyone who is able to give their time to support; whether as a Leader, Supporter or an Adult Helper in any of the sections, are welcome to call in at anytime to learn about the many support roles you can get involved in. Any help you can give, either once a week or once every 2 months, would be a great help to Scouting.
