The Capacity Explorers Team at Action Together provides information and support to build the capacity and sustainability of voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector organisations throughout Tameside, Oldham and the surrounding area.
Their aim is to strengthen voluntary and community action by supporting their members in their work within various sectors of the local community.
Community Development Officer, Michaelle Lukanu explained, “Over several months, the Community Explorers Team at Action Together have listened to what our members were saying about the possibility of creating more opportunities to network locally, and as a result, we have organised a series of monthly Community Explorers gatherings; the first gathering started in June and others are planned to take place on a regular basis up to November 2018.
The purpose of these gatherings is to enable Voluntary, Community, Faith & Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector groups and organisations within the local community to connect with each other in order to find out what each other are doing; what else is happening in their area and how Action Together can be of support to them.”
By using local knowledge, skills, networks and connections of assets in the community, VCFSE groups and organisations are then better able to raise awareness of the on-going experiences and issues that affect local people. It is also an opportunity to develop a closer working relationship between VCFSE groups and public sector organisations to offer a coordinated approach to support locally.
