Local Community Matters is a not-for-profit community trust, run by volunteers all of whom
have strong links to the towns and people surrounding Tameside.
We share a belief that our local towns are far from fulfilling their potential and that only the wider community, working together can bring about real change from within.
There are many great community groups in our towns, which cover a vast range of needs, all doing really worthwhile things. But the majority work in isolation and their achievements are rarely shared and applauded in the community, simply because there has been a communications vacuum and no way of focussing on local agendas.
This is where LOCAL COMMUNITY MATTERS comes in.
What started as a bi-monthly newsletter, morphed into a daily updated online journal, reporting and sharing often amazing stories on what Hyde people were doing individually and as groups.
Now, in response to a number of requests to cover news and events from our friends in neighbouring towns and villages, we are pleased to announce that we are expanding our news coverage to provide a more comprehensive reader service by including coverage of good news and achievements from individuals, communities and businesses, from a little further afield.
While continuing to put our readers at the heart of everything we do; we are committed to continue to cover in-depth local news articles, showcase local events and profile specialist real-life features that celebrate those individuals who have achieved success, shown courage against the odds, or people who are making a difference within our local communities.
With this expansion we start to form a strong glue that helps to hold our local communities together. It allows ideas, big and small, to be aired and shared. It allows our towns and villages to become real entities again, each with their own very distinct personalities.
We have become a powerful voice. The voice of ordinary local people – the people that matter.
